Focused Coaching for the Moments That Matter Most

The SW&A Way

Compelling communication is essential when you’re influencing a decision or aligning a large group. But it’s a personal skill and good habits. And personal skills and habits don’t develop in a single day. They develop from someone observing you, working with you to adapt tools and guiding you to new choices, better habits and personal impact.

That’s executive coaching.

At SW&A, we help leaders and managers shift from informing to influencing. We refine habits, set the right tone, and build a message that leads to outcomes. Every engagement is tailored to you: your situations, your audiences, and the gaps that are holding you back from the impact you want to have.

Our coaches bring real corporate experience, which means you’re not getting theory. You’re getting someone who understands the business behind the communication challenge.

Then we identify choices. Once we know how your style and content work together, we pinpoint the specific choices that will strengthen your impact and drive engagement with the people you’re trying to reach.

How We Coach

Our process is simple, and it works the same way whether you’re a senior leader or a manager stepping into a bigger role for the first time.

We start with awareness. A verbal assessment tells us how you’re coming across today. Most people are surprised by what they learn.

Then we identify choices. Once we know your style and how your content holds together, we pinpoint the specific choices that will strengthen your impressions and connect with the people you’re trying to reach.

Then we coach to consistency. Confidence isn’t a technique you turn on for the big moments. It’s something you carry into every setting. We stay with you until it holds.

The tools come from our methodology: content, style, and situation. In coaching, we apply all three to the moments that matter most to you.

For Senior Leaders

A senior leader sets the vision and direction for an organization. But it’s effective communication that inspires, engages, and transforms it. We coach senior leaders to consider the expectations, impact, and results of their communication, whether that’s:

  • Setting direction through a communication plan that establishes visibility across an industry.
  • Leading Board conversations with an audience that has high expectations and little day-to-day context.
  • Turning an interview into a focused conversation through media coaching.
  • Crafting an onboarding plan to set initial impressions with intention.
  • Becoming the storyteller that can inspire employees.
  • Delivering every message with impact.

Format: 6-month engagement, typically 16 to 24 hours based on scope.

For Mid-Level Managers

When someone becomes a manager, they shift to the mighty middle of an organization. Communication becomes a differentiating skill, not just a daily task. We coach managers through:

  • High-potential development, to prepare for the next opportunity.
  • General leadership, to reset and re-energize a brand that’s gone unnoticed.
  • Personal presence, to build the confidence to influence any room.
  • Transitions, to step into a bigger role with focus and intention.
  • Think on your feet to speak up amongst peers or field questions with credibility.

Format: 3-6 month engagement, typically 12 to 24 hours based on scope.

Executive Coaching leverages the SW&A methodology in a different kind of way.

Executive coaching starts with outcomes and an understanding of a leader’s communication situations and key audiences. We focus on the individual and his/her strengths and inconsistencies. Then, we build a customized plan to focus on intentional choices and resolve inconsistencies. Once we have a plan, we follow a three-step process that flexes to the needs of the individual and the priorities of their business situations.

Impactful executive coaching is not a parallel activity that leaders turn on and off when they have time to explore it. Instead, coaching becomes a sounding board, a partner, and a resource who joins in real time to help a leader find a better way and a more durable approach. Over time, the coaching inputs become a new set of habits and tools.

Executive coaching as a leadership development catalyst happens over time and gives us the runway to engage in many situations and support overall growth and development.

A typical executive coaching engagement is six months. But since there’s rarely anything typical about a custom engagement, we let you define the parameters and priorities with us.
